This wonderful coral island in the Caribbean Sea has
33 dazzling white sand beaches and postcard quality aqua water.
Two of the prettiest are Shoal Bay and Rendezvous Bay. Another
plus is there are no cruise ships. This peaceful island, shaped
like an eel (hence it's name), is virtually flat with lots of
pretty hidden coves.
Quiet as Anguilla is, there are at least four fabulous hotels,
including Cap Juluca, as well as a wide range of restaurants.
Island activities include great snorkeling diving (there are an
impressive number of natural and artificial shipwrecks) and
chartered sailing and fishing trips. St. Barth is close enough
by boat or plane for a day trip as is Nevis for golf at the
Four Season's Robert Trent Jones designed course.
The local currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar (EC) though
US dollars are widely accepted. Fly to the Anguilla airport via
American Airlines, Caribbean Star or LIAT from San Juan or fly to St.
Maartin on one of several major carriers and then take a ferry to the
island. One can also fly to Anguilla directly on a private jet as the
runaway has been extended. |
