The heart of France - that's what you'll experience on
a vacation to Burgundy. An unforgettable adventure of culinary delights,
fine wine and history, Burgundy epitomizes all that France is celebrated
for. It's also one of the most fascinating regions of France. Burgundy's
physical boundaries begin to the south east of Paris and to the north of
Lyon. Gently rolling hills and pastures dotted with vineyards and
Charolais cattle define its landscape.
Take a leisurely drive along the "Routes des Vins" from Beaune and the
Cote d'Or, Burgundy's epicenter and wine capital, and explore the cobbled
courtyards and thick-walled stone buildings of the many small towns along
the way. Or drive down to Lyon, one of France's gastronomic capitals and
home to Paul Bocuse's world famous restaurant. In between are the
delicious wines of Maconnais, Pouilly Fuisse and Beaujolais. Also within
an hour are many other famous restaurants including Georges Blanc in
Vonnas and Lameloise in Chagny. Other ways to view the beautiful scenery
include from above in a hot air balloon or via a scenic trip on a luxury
barge down the Rhine. Both are unique and very popular ways to see
Burgundy's pastoral landscapes.
A region full of history, a few of the must see World Heritage sites are "Fontenay,"
one of the best preserved Cistercian abbeys in France; "Vezelay," a
charming medieval town that was once one of the major pilgrimage sites of
the Christian world; and "La Charite." There's so much to experience in
Burgundy that one could easily stay for weeks! |
